Description
Competency: Information Technology

Target Audience: Computing, technical and public services librarians

Learning Outcomes:

1) Participants will evaluate three ways to enhance their integrated library system.

2) Participants will be able to integrate open source Web 2.0 technology into their OPAC design.

In this ILS-focused session, panelists will identify open source technology that will create greater functionality for users interacting with a library’s OPAC. Panelists will also identify why they felt compelled to augment their ILS with new technology, and will share what rewards and pitfalls they faced in implementing change at their libraries. Following the short panel discussion, attendees will visit up to three individual showcases in which the panelists will teach participants how to customize the relevant technology for their organization and demonstrate its implementation.
