Description
In children, it is more likely that a common disease will have an unusual presentation than a rare disease occurring in the mouth. It is also true, however, that some persistent and serious diseases may have an innocuous appearance, especially in the early stages. The purpose of this course is to illustrate a diverse group of oral lesions, ranging from inflammatory lesions to malignant diseases, with a focus on identifying key features. Although the discussion will highlight the atypical appearance of common lesions, new conditions and unusual oral and dental diseases will be interspersed throughout the program. When appropriate, connections with systemic and genetic diseases will be identified. Tips for formulating a plan in order to arrive at a prompt diagnosis will be outlined, along with latest treatments for children. They might be more challenging, but even the bizarre and atypical lesions have a place in the dental home.
