Track : June 23, 2010
Program Code: 204
Date: Wednesday, June 23, 2010
Time: 9:00 AM to 9:20 AM  EST

Description
The most effective means of minimizing the life cycle impacts and corresponding liabilities of products and operations is to choose and design products with the smallest possible environmental footprint in the first place. Successfully designing sustainable products includes a careful consideration of the environmental, health and safety profile of each individual component of the formulation. Likewise selection of products from vendors, whether as raw materials or non-process materials, should include an examination of the potential EHS risks and liabilities related to the product and its components. In this session, the speaker will detail a strategy for implementing business processes which leverage existing data to measure substance attributes which have been defined as key indicators within your organization. She will also discuss how those measurements can then be compared within product use categories to determine which ingredients should be used to achieve the ideal EHS profile of your products. Incorporating these business process changes on the front end will significantly enhance marketability and drive down compliance costs and risks.
