Objectives: - Know the “standard(s) of care” by which a provider’s infection prevention program and conduct in a specific patient’s care will be judged. - Define the importance of preserving critical evidence (i.e., the “litigation hold”) to avoid a “spoliation” claim and to assure presentation of the best defense. - Describe ways in which the provider’s infection control officer, epidemiologist, laboratory and clinical personnel, information technology and other personnel can assist in building the defense case.
