Description
Many associations lack time, resources, and expertise necessary to generate easily understood reports about their members that can be used to address policy issues and communicate vital information. The National Center for Charitable Statistics at the Urban Institute working with the National Council of Nonprofit Associations has created a standardized report that incorporates information on the scope, dimensions, and finances of nonprofits in a state from the IRS Forms 990 that are filed each year. These reports have increased the capacity of the associations to take a more vigorous and informed role in their representation of nonprofit issues. Learn how your association can develop a similar research report that can be replicated on a state level. With a modest amount of effort and minimal technical assistance, associations can create reports that represent a tangible benefit to members and increase their credibility with government and the public.
