I serve as the Chair of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) Quality of Life (QOL) Commitee and have published many articles on QOL in cancer patients.

Susan Yount,

Susan Yount, Ph.D., is Director of Research Operations at the Center for Outcomes Research and Education (CORE) at NorthShore University HealthSystem and Research Assistant Professor at the Institute for Healthcare Studies, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. She is a clinical health psychologist with experience across a broad range of chronic illnesses, including cancer, having completed her Ph.D. at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL, a clinical health psychology internship at the University of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics, Madison, WI and a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Miami (Department of Psychology/UM School of Medicine, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center). Her research interests focus on measurement and applications of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in chronic illness. As a scientist at CORE, she is has experience directing multi-site research protocols and has served as the co-principal or co-investigator on numerous internally- and industry-funded research grants involving measurement of health-related quality of life (HRQL), symptoms, and health status in cancer patients. She is the Principal Investigator of an NCI-funded R01, a four-year randomized clinical trial evaluating the efficacy of a computer-assisted telephone survey system to monitor lung cancer patients’ symptoms and generate a report for use in their clinical management. She is also PI of a grant from the Cardinal Health Foundation to explore redesigns of the computer-based survey system used in the R01 to create a tool that is more relevant and useful for clinical practice and to test the redesigned tool with lung cancer patients and their healthcare providers. Dr. Yount is Co-investigator and Scientific Project Director for the Statistical Coordinator Center of the NIH Roadmap cooperative group initiative to develop a Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) and Co-investigator on an NCI-funded administrative supplement to PROMIS to enhance existing item banks for cancer patients and develop a disease and symptom-specific module for cancer patients accessing the PROMIS. Dr. Yount has a number of publications on the measurement and applications of PROs of health-related quality of life and symptom status in cancer and other chronic health conditions and has presented at international, national and local conferences and grand rounds.
