Corey J. Langer, MD, FACP, who is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and oncology, is a Professor of Medicine in Medical Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania, Abramson Cancer Center, where he directs the Thoracic Oncology program. Prior to 2008, he was an Attending Physician in Medical Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center (FCCC) and Medical Director of Thoracic Oncology there from 1994 until 2008. Dr Langer received his medical degree from Boston University in 1981 and completed his Internship and Residency in medicine at The Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in 1984. Additional postgraduate training included a Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the Presbyterian-University of Pennsylvania Medical Center and a Fellowship in Oncology at AOH / Fox Chase Cancer Center, which he completed in 1987.
Dr Langer is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Society of Hematology (ASH), American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (ISLAC), and the Society of Head and Neck Surgeons. He serves as Vice-Chair of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) and as Chair of its Medical Oncology Subcommittee. He also serves on the core Thoracic and Head and Neck Committees of both the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) and RTOG. Dr Langer is Chair of the Commission on Cancer Head and Neck Cancer Database Committee under the aegis of the American Cancer Society and the American College of Surgeons. While at FCCC, he served as the Research Chair of the Oncology Physicians Network, a consortium of academic and community facilities in the Delaware Valley dedicated to clinical trials. In addition, he served as Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Quality Management Committee at FCCC for nearly 20 years.
Dr Langer has contributed numerous articles and abstracts to the medical literature. His work on head and neck squamous cell cancer and non-small cell lung cancer has appeared in The New England Journal of Medicine, Seminars in Oncology, Clinical Cancer Research, the JNCI, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Cancer, Lung Cancer, Cancer Investigation, Clinical Lung Cancer and EJC. Dr Langers work has also been presented at the national meetings of ASCO, AACR, ASTRO, ASH, and the IASLC. He has served three separate terms as a member of the Editorial Board of the JCO and is currently on the Editorial Boards of Clinical Lung Cancer and Clinical Advances in Hematology and Oncology. While at FCCC, he served on the NCCN NSCLC, and SCLC committees. He has reviewed articles for JCO, Clinical Lung Cancer, CCR, Cancer, Annals of Oncology and Lung Cancer, and the Journal of Thoracic Oncology. He is also a frequent lecturer at numerous medical symposia and Grand Rounds.
