Stephanie Mohl, Government Relations Manager, American Heart/American Stroke Association
Stephanie Mohl joined the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association as a Government Relations Manager in its Office of Federal Advocacy in October, 2005. Her federal advocacy responsibilities include coverage and access, improving the treatment and prevention of stroke, focusing on health quality, and promoting the elimination of cardiovascular disease disparities in women and minorities. She also serves as the American Heart Association’s lead lobbyist in Washington, DC on health care reform. In addition, she manages the Congressional Heart and Stroke Coalition and the STOP Stroke Coalition. Prior to joining the Heart Association, Stephanie worked as a senior legislative assistant in the office of U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota) for nearly 12 years. In April, 2005, she was named one of National Journal’s “Hill 100” for her work on prescription drug issues for Congress. Stephanie graduated magna cum laude from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a concentration in journalism.

Jeff Ranous, State Advocacy Manager, American Heart Association/American Stroke Association
Jeff Ranous has been a member of the Office of State Advocacy team at the National Office of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for the past three years. In addition to serving as a liaison between the National Office of the American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association and four of the eight regional advocacy departments, Jeff also consults all of the country’s advocacy programs on acute event issues (stroke, heart attack, sudden cardiac arrest) and chain of survival issues (CPR/AED placement and training, 911 systems, EMS). Prior to taking his current position with the National Office, Jeff was the American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association’s Wisconsin Senior Advocacy Director for three years. Previous to joining the American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association, he was the Advocacy Director for the American Cancer Society in Wisconsin for over eight years. Jeff started his advocacy career in 1988 when he served as an intern for first term Governor, Tommy Thompson. He then went on to become a Research Assistant in the Wisconsin Legislature which included serving as the Clerk of the Labor Committee and chief staff for the Majority Caucus Chair.
Neale Chumbler, PhD, Associate Director, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Services Research & Development Center of Excellence on Implementing Evidence-based Practice (CIEBP) at the Roudebush VAMC
Dr. Neale R. Chumbler is the Associate Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Services Research & Development Center of Excellence on Implementing Evidence-based Practice (CIEBP) at the Roudebush VAMC in Indianapolis, IN. At the CIEBP, Dr. Chumbler directs the interdisciplinary fellowship program in health services research, medical informatics, and patient safety and is an investigator in the Stroke Quality Enhanced Research Initiative (QUERI). He is also a Professor of Sociology in the Indiana University School of Liberal Arts at Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis. He currently is the principal investigator of three VA grants on assessing stroke quality and outcomes, one being a Randomized Controlled Trial that determines whether a tele-rehabilitation intervention that uses tele-health technology improves outcomes of stroke patients. A second grant is on developing stroke performance measures from administrative data. Overall, he has written and published 80 articles in the areas of health services research and medical sociology.
Steven R. Levine, MD, is currently a tenured Professor of Neurology within The Mt. Sinai Stroke Center. He graduated summa cum laude from The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, did his neurology residency at the University of Michigan, and completed a 2-year cerebrovascular disease and stroke fellowship at the NIH-funded Center for Stroke Research at The Henry Ford Hospital & Health Sciences Center in Detroit. He has previously been on faculty at the Henry Ford Hospital/University of Michigan and Wayne State University. He is a board certified vascular neurologist, investigating acute stroke therapies, new stroke risk factors (including antiphsopholipid antibodies), and new models of stroke care including "Telestroke" - the application of telemedicine to stroke. He serves on the editorial boards of Stroke, Neurology, Clinical Neuropharmacology, and is the editor for the National Stroke Association's Stroke-Clinical Updates. He is an Associate Editor (Cerbrovascular Diseases) for MEDLINK. He has consulted for NIH, American Stroke Association, National Stroke Association, American Academy of Neurology, various pharmaceutical companies, and Premier, Inc. He has been named among "Best doctors in America" and New York’s Top Doctor on several occasions.
