Description
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly all significant bacterial infections in the world are becoming resistant to the most commonly prescribed antibiotic treatments, but with high R&D costs and increasing difficulty in identifying novel approaches and disease targets, investment in infectious disease research is dwindling. This is a chance to hear from experts in this area as they discuss openly the need for further research, how they are approaching this global problem, why public perception needs to be changed to enforce proper compliance and avoid misuse, and most important, what the future looks like for community- and hospital-based infections.

Objectives:
  • Increase awareness and understanding about the growing problem of bacterial resistance to current medicines, and the need to invest in infection research and develop new antibacterial treatment options.

  • Discuss how academia, government and the pharmaceutical industry can work to identify problems that hinder successful and sustained antibacterial discovery and development, as well as the innovation necessary to deliver much-needed new drugs to patients.

  • Identify and discuss the most promising developments in antibacterial research and predict where breakthroughs may occur.
