Description
What role should vaccines and antibiotics play in fish farming; should nutraceutical-enhanced feeds and GM species be utilized; can sustainable aquaculture be used to kick-start the economies of developing nations and feed the world? In this panel, leaders from industry, government and academia will tackle these issues and discuss the way cutting-edge biotechnology is used in aquaculture.
Objectives:
Show that biotech systems for establishing the sustainability of aquaculture have been successfully implemented both in developed and developing countries.
Demonstrate the importance of maximizing the use and recycling of all raw material inputs as a basic enabling technology in sustainability.
Demonstrate that fish health, nutrition and welfare issues are critical elements in establishing aquaculture as an economic and morally acceptable way of providing food in the 21st century.
