Description
What role should vaccines and antibiotics play in fish farming; should nutraceutical-enhanced feeds and GM species be utilized; can sustainable aquaculture be used to kick-start the economies of developing nations and feed the world? In this panel, leaders from industry, government and academia will tackle these issues and discuss the way cutting-edge biotechnology is used in aquaculture.

Objectives:
  • Show that biotech systems for establishing the sustainability of aquaculture have been successfully implemented both in developed and developing countries.

  • Demonstrate the importance of maximizing the use and recycling of all raw material inputs as a basic enabling technology in sustainability.

  • Demonstrate that fish health, nutrition and welfare issues are critical elements in establishing aquaculture as an economic and morally acceptable way of providing food in the 21st century.
