This session will include presentations by the foremost experts in the field of stem cell research, specifically in the areas of research grant funding in California and at federal levels, state-of-the-art basic research, and R&D within the company arena. Speakers will address such concerns as the status of California's Stem Cell Initiative, status and potential for development therapies with adult vs. embryonic stem cells in the commercial arena, and latest developments showing promise at leading-edge research institutions.
Objectives:
Summarize the challenges and benefits of research on human embryonic stem cells for the treatment of chronic and degenerative diseases, including diabetes and heart disease.
Discuss progress in the application of adult vs. embryonic stem to treat conditions such as spinal cord injury.
