Description
This session will address the challenges to developing and delivering vaccines to the poorest countries and assess the recent advances made by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), the Gates Foundation, industry and others key stakeholders to accelerate the development and introduction of new vaccines.



Objectives:
  • Provide a baseline understanding of (1) the current state of immunization coverage in developing countries, (2) the newest vaccines with potential application to developing countries, (3) the key organizations involved in vaccine delivery and distribution and (4) the challenges of accelerating vaccine introduction in the lowest income countries.

  • Highlight recent breakthroughs in vaccine financing.

  • Discuss the potential opportunities for accelerating the introduction of new vaccines, such as those for pneumococcal disease, rotavirus gastroenteritis and human papilloma virus, into the poorest countries.
