Description
By 2005 the area planted with genetically engineered crops had expanded to 90 million hectares, occupying approximately 7 percent of the global cropland. Farmers are the major actors in this adoption, and this session will examine their observed economic and nonpecuniary benefits when cultivating genetically engineered crops.

Objectives:
  • Provide an overview of the adoption of genetically engineered crops worldwide.

  • Illustrate the economic and nonpecuniary benefits, and related spatial and temporal variability, for adopters of the technology.

  • Describe the local and aggregated environmental implications of using genetically engineered crops.
