Description
By 2005 the area planted with genetically engineered crops had expanded to 90 million hectares, occupying approximately 7 percent of the global cropland. Farmers are the major actors in this adoption, and this session will examine their observed economic and nonpecuniary benefits when cultivating genetically engineered crops.
Objectives:
Provide an overview of the adoption of genetically engineered crops worldwide.
Illustrate the economic and nonpecuniary benefits, and related spatial and temporal variability, for adopters of the technology.
Describe the local and aggregated environmental implications of using genetically engineered crops.
