Description
A new generation of plants under development can bring major health benefits to consumers in the form of disease prevention and improved production systems for therapeutic proteins. Session speakers lead some of the most advanced R&D programs in plant biotechnology.

Objectives:
  • Show that modification of starch properties in grains can provide multiple preventive health benefits such as the prevention of type 2 diabetes.

  • Demonstrate the state of technology development to produce long chain omega-3 fatty acids in oilseeds, increased production of beneficial isoflavonoids in plants and the production of edible vaccines in rice.

  • Provide a progress report on the production of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies in a plant production system.
