Vaccines have eradicated or reduced numerous diseases in a highly cost-effective manner, and the recent approval of innovative vaccines and the critical role of vaccines have underscored their public health value in pandemic and biodefense preparedness. This panel will explore the interrelationship between sound policies and innovation that drives continued development of vaccines to address domestic and global public health needs.
Objectives:
Highlight and discuss the advances in vaccine technologies that have enhanced and have the potential to advance public health.
Explore the role of effective public policy in fostering vaccine innovations. Identify key policy areas, such as financing, recommendation processes, and reimbursement policies.
Discuss the role of the regulatory environment and the value of streamlined processes in fostering innovation, including a discussion of the role of the FDA's Critical Path Initiative.
