Description
The panel brings an international perspective to the area of biofuels, and biodiesel in particular, and the role of biotechnology in developing this industry sector. The session will generate debate and discussion on the veracity of claims that biodiesel will play a substantive role in economic development and building a secure energy future while addressing human health and environmental concerns associated with petroleum-based diesel.
Objectives:
Impart an understanding that to meet future energy needs (not just in the United States but also globally), biofuels will be a core and essential source of energy.
Give a clear understanding and recognition of the opportunities that the biotechnology industry will play in development of the biofuels industry.
Show how biotechnology, as applied to the production of biofuels, will play a key and essential role in economic development while accruing environmental benefits.
