The recent Ontario Court of Appeal decision in a class action involving Midas franchisees has determined that franchisors cannot require releases from franchisees on renewals or resales, and that franchise agreements governed by Ontario law will extend Ontario's Arthur Wishart Act to franchised businesses outside Ontario.
