Description
Accepted standards of business etiquette in today's workplace are currently evolving and being redefined to include the use of electronic devices such as cell phones, email, and the internet. Rules that previously applied to standards of business communication often fail to fit the new playing field, where one click of the mouse or one inadvertent, electronic mishap can unknowingly cause serious and often irreparable damage to the reputation of a job applicant, new employee, or experienced worker. This session will examine selected organizations' best practices of 'e-etiquette' and related policies that have aided in the development of guidelines for the workplace. Besides assisting the new millennium generation adjust and sharpen their e-etiquette skills, this session will help the experienced worker learn new ways to navigate the current electronic-centered work culture, where one slip of the keyboard can cause serious embarrassment. Some of the ethics associated with the 'slippery slope' of mass communication within the workplace will also be identified, such as the potential repercussion of the common usage of "blind cc','forward' and 'reply to all', etc.
