Description
"What is the most effective organizational model for career services in a university setting? In an era of budget cuts experienced in universities across the country, the question of centralizing or decentralizing career services is more prevalent than ever. The impact of the model chosen on any given institution reaches far beyond students' career development and employers' talent pipeline development. It also touches the university's reputation, fundraising efforts, and corporate relations. In this session, we will explore the various models of university career services as well as the pros and cons of centralization and decentralization relative to students, employers, career centers, and academic departments. We will share the results of a survey and feedback received from all entities involved, including students and employers. A panel representing the different key players of career services, including employers, centralized career center, and decentralized career center, will provide a rich discussion about the different models. Participants will have an opportunity to develop strategies appropriate for their own universities.
