Description
"Career decision-making and the job-search process is challenging and anxiety-producing for most college students and graduates and can be even more challenging for individuals who identify on the transgender continuum. What career paths are possible given my transgender identity? Should I disclose and when? What about pronouns and clothing for the interview? How do I handle names and information on resumes and graduate school applications? How can I use the strengths gained from my unique experiences? What is the impact of intersecting identities? This program will provide a brief review of basic concepts related to transgender identity, but the central focus will be on the impact of transgender identity on career processes. In-depth interviews with transgender college students and alumni will help identify these challenges and the resulting questions for career counselors who want to serve them. Participants will recognize some of the chief concerns of the transgender job seeker, identify action steps to enhance the career counseling services they provide to these clients, learn about resources, and hear tips from the transgender community about how to best support and empower them in their search for satisfying and productive careers.
