Description
Melding a multi-generational work force can be challenging, and is one aspect of diversity that is often overlooked. Research shows that generations can be characterized by common values and beliefs, but how does this play out in the workplace? Most Gen Yers probably grew up surrounded by an assortment of technologies: video games, Internet resources, and online communities. But Baby-Boomers came of age with different entertainment and communication tools. Some Boomers might be confused by the proliferation of virtual tools. “Why would we IM if we can e-mail?” “Education happens in the classroom...right?” Then there are Gen Xers, the employees who focus on the notion of work/life balance and search for ways to shape a supportive environment for their older and younger colleagues. The presenters will share how EMC Corporation is working to ensure it continues to attract and retain scarce resources and fuels productive multi-generational collaboration in a competitive industry. Participants will discuss and evaluate best practices, learn from the EMC experience, and leave with practical strategies for unleashing the power of their multi-generational work force.
