Description
"As the job market grows more competitive, the need for valuable resume-building experiences becomes paramount earlier in a student's experience. Under this kind of pressure, students often struggle to find part-time jobs to support themselves, while at the same time gain career-building experiences. This session will expose you to an innovative service-learning program that offers students unique part-time work or volunteer opportunities while meeting the needs of the under-served. This program is a recipient of the 2007 and 2008 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service for exemplary service efforts and commitment to civic engagement. The presenters will discuss how they created unique (and needed) work opportunities for both the student and partner organizations and how they are able to place students quickly in these positions. In addition, they will demonstrate how to evaluate the relationship with the partner organizations and the learning goals of the students, including career interests and increased diversity skills.
