Description
"As the social media revolution overwhelms everything in sight, career services operations struggle to keep pace. Some sources declare that employers have already switched to LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter as their preferred recruitment platforms. Others suggest that students will soon bypass career services and ""tweet"" their way into a job. Rather than fight against the trend, Michigan State University's Career Services Network leapt into the fray with a program that uses LinkedIn groups to connect students exploring careers with alumni eager to help them. The centerpiece of a larger Career Exposure Program, the initiative represents a novel partnership between career services and the alumni association. This presentation will explain how a social networking strategy can expose students to career fields better than standard career resources; create an avenue to engage alumni meaningfully with the university; build a brand for the institution that transcends the campus; and greatly expand the capacity of career services to assist students.
