Description
Partly due to recent economic times, career counselors within college and university career centers are being asked to meet with an increasingly diverse student and alumni population, stay current with emerging trends and accomplish more within a limited time frame and budget. A typical day for a career counselor may include a multitude of tasks from meeting individually with students and alumni to utilizing social media for marketing purposes and collaborating with offices across campus to deliver strategic and innovative programs. How can counselors keep up with the demands of their work, continue learning, and support one another to encourage self-care and prevent burnout? During this presentation, Columbia University’s Center for Career Education staff members will share their approach to tackling these issues by creating a comprehensive professional development and support program for a group of career counselors. Learn how a team of five Associate Directors created this pilot program from the beginning stage of research and benchmarking to the final stage of assessing learning outcomes.
