Description
Like other employers, Freddie Mac saw a troubling trend earlier this decade of rising attrition in its recent college hires; many departed after just a year or two. Determined to halt this trend, we developed an innovative program, appealing to the Millennials’ desires for collaboration, cohesion, constant learning, individual choice, and visibility. [Lancaster and Stillman, 2010] Contributing from different roles on different teams in the early phases of their careers allows our newest professionals to find the ultimate best-fit role faster and more confidently than before. Through this program, we’ve achieved our desired retention and beneficial attrition for this demographic. Today, managers’ demand for these well-prepared college hires consistently exceeds supply. The session presents three major components of our program: the Cohort environment, the 4 week Integration Program, and the Rotation Program, available to college hires in our Information Technology and Operations divisions. Through a combination of lecture, video testimonials, and hands-on design of rotation tools, session attendees will learn: 1) how we designed our program; 2) practical tips for anticipating and overcoming challenges; and 3) how to individualize college hire integration and rotation programs for their own companies.
