Description
A researcher of social and emotional development and a gifted professional who experienced and articulated burdens of high capability for an extended time present perspectives related to conceptualizing giftedness and the field holistically. Various phenomena have had little or no scholarly or proactive developmental attention. Therefore, a multitude of dark factors, which potentially affect academic and talent performance, are off radar. The concept of developmental stuckness, in regard to career, relationships, identity, autonomy, and emotional differentiation, is not acknowledged. Though intelligence is a factor of resilience, invisible dimensions can contribute to difficulties, including after students leave protective K-12 structures.
