Robert C. Pianta, is the Dean of the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia. The Novartis Professor of Education and director of U.Va.'s Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning. Pianta is author of over 250 articles and several influential books on teacher-child interactions, classroom observation, and professional development.

Description
Results from a series of large-scale studies of classrooms are presented, including newly developed approaches for improving the quality of teachers’ instructional and social interactions with pre-K–12 students. These models have been shown effective in randomized controlled trials for changing teacher behavior and student learning. Implications for practice, professional development, and policy are discussed.
