George Bear, PhD, is a professor of school psychology at the University of Delaware and consultant to the state of Delaware’s Positive Behavioral Supports (PBS) initiative. He has published over 60 journal articles, book chapters, and books, including School Discipline and Self-Discipline: A Practical Guide to Promoting Prosocial Behavior (2010).

Description
Researchers and policy makers have increasingly recognized the role of school climate in children’s academic and social-emotional development (including self-discipline). Positive teacher-student and student-student relationships are central to school climate. In this session, school climate research is reviewed, emphasizing programs and practices for promoting positive relationships and self-discipline.
