Description
Participants will learn, through lectures, PowerPoint, handouts, demonstrations, and small-group discussions, how to (a) collect questionnaire information from parents about developmental, medical, and family histories, and from teachers about response to instructional program; (b) assess developmental and academic learning profiles of children who do not respond to reading, writing, and math instruction for purposes of differentiating developmental and learning disabilities; (c) define and differentiate specific learning disabilities in writing (dysgraphia), reading (dyslexia and oral and written language learning disability), and math (dyscalculia) for purposes of planning, implementing, and monitoring differentiated instruction in general education; and (d) foster optimal school-home relationships. Primary focus is on elementary but applications to middle and high school area also explained.
