Description
Gaming providers have been investing significant time and resources in the past decade in their ‘responsible gambling programs’. But, until now, there have been no independent benchmarks for assessing the quality of these programs. The Responsible Gambling Council, an independent non-profit dedicated to problem gambling prevention, has created a set of voluntary standards for the RG components of gaming operations. The standards, titled “the Responsible Gambling Index”, were created over a seven year period in consultation with gamblers, treatment providers and gaming providers. They are the product of and extensive review of the literature and several specific studies. They were tested with regular gamblers through focus groups and pilot tested in a Canadian casino. Based on the standards in the Responsible Gambling Index the RGC has initiated a voluntary accreditation program. The “RG Check” program offers gaming providers the opportunity for independent assessment of their programs. This presentation will provide information about the standards in the Index as well as the accreditation process.
