Description
Previous studies from the terrestrial gambling sector in Anglo-Saxon countries confirm that excluded/banned players in such countries generally have a high level of exposure to gambling and admit almost without exception to having a gambling problem. Following the initiation of an exclusion order/gambling ban, positive changes – such as a general reduction in the level of gambling activities or a decrease in the stress symptoms – can be observed. However, lack of evidence has so far made it impossible to draw any reliable conclusions on the effectiveness of exclusion orders/bans in the online gambling sector. To address this problem, Casinos Austria and Austrian Lotteries commissioned Professor Gerhard Meyer and his team at the University of Bremen’s Institute of Psychology and Cognition Research to conduct an in-depth study of the effectiveness of exclusion orders/gambling bans among their guests and customers. This presentation examines which of the evidence-based action recommendations contribute to optimizing exclusion practices at Casinos Austria and Austrian Lotteries and looks at how the results of the study have influenced processes and procedures in their terrestrial and online product portfolios.
