DESCRIPTION
In March 2004, AABB Standard 5.1.5.1 went into effect. This requirement for bacterial quality control has far-ranging implications on patient safety, platelet shelf life and the possibility of pre-storage pooling of whole-blood-derived platelets. Updates on the current state of the art will be presented via lecture and case studies.
