DESCRIPTION
Through lecture format and case studies, this program will first provide a basis for the development of National Patient Safety Goals and Standards. The program will describe how an institution can apply existing mechanisms to meet the AABB standards, CAP guidelines and JCAHO accreditation requirements all at the same time. The role of the Blood Utilization Committee as an agent for meeting the national patient safety initiatives will be explored. Interactive case studies will illustrate the importance of complying with patient safety initiatives in improving patient outcomes.
