DESCRIPTION
The field of therapeutic apheresis is poised on the verge of a major expansion as a result of the application of selective adsorption techniques to important disease processes that affect large numbers of patients. In three short lectures this symposium will present current information on the application of immunoadsorption apheresis, double filtration apheresis and leukapheresis to the treatment of human disease and current hypotheses that seek to explain their mechanisms of action. Current clinical trial data will be presented where available. A fourth short lecture will review recent developments in apheresis reimbursement.
