DESCRIPTION
TRALI is the most common cause of transfusion-associated death in the US. This program will discuss the most recent advances in our understanding of this syndrome, focusing first on new clinical findings and the new working definition from the 2004 Consensus Conference. The role of HLA/HNA antibodies and laboratory diagnosis and management will be summarized. Recent animal models, both in vivo and ex vivo will be reviewed, comparing the antibody and the “two-hit” models.
