Bacterial contamination of blood components has been recognized in the past 10 years as one of the major life-threatening hazards related to blood transfusion. Two experts from Europe and the US with much experience in this area will present this session. They will cover the main aspects related to the epidemiology, screening, prevention and control, current guidelines adopted in several countries of the world and the proper management of bacterial contamination.
