DESCRIPTION
The safe administration of blood/blood components to a patient is a complex interdepartmental process. A multi-disciplinary approach is essential for process improvement within a facility to ensure that processes and procedures that support safe transfusion are in place and ultimately reduce and prevent errors. This workshop will address specifics of the blood transfusion process and error prone processes such as specimen collection and the issue, transport and administration of blood/blood components. A case study highlighting a team approach that includes nurses, clinicians, pathologists and laboratory personnel will be presented that can be applied in your own facility.
