DESCRIPTION
Young donors represent an increasing proportion of the donor population, as many states now permit donation by 16 year-olds with parental consent. The relatively high rate of adverse events in this group necessitates that blood centers design strategies to minimize harm and protect donors, and in so doing, promote donor return for repeat donation. This session will focus on the available evidence that the rate and severity of adverse events may be minimized through various measures and selective interventions.
