DESCRIPTION
Recently, therapeutic apheresis has experienced an expanding role in the care of patients undergoing various types of transplantation. Apheresis is being used in preparative regimens and as treatment for transplant-related complications, including rejection and graft-vs- host disease. This session will highlight recent advances in the field, focusing on the role of apheresis in caring for patients with incompatible kidney transplants, heart transplants and peripheral blood stem cell transplants. The indications for therapeutic plasma exchange and photopheresis will be discussed.
