DESCRIPTION
This course provides information toward achieving successful training for those residents that potentially can occupy a position of director of a blood bank/transfusion service in the future without previous formal fellowship training in transfusion medicine. It is important to provide a strong, thorough training in transfusion medicine not only to pathology residents but to other specialtists or subspecialtists that could be appointed to this role. Speakers will present how they conduct transfusion medicine residency training at their institution. In addition, they will present the results of a survey designed to capture different aspects of transfusion medicine residency training among ACGME accredited programs in the United States and Canada.
