Blood bankers are increasingly involved in helping clinicians not only understand how to use products, but also when not to use products. Tim Hannon, MD, MBA is a board certified anesthesiologist who serves as medical director of the St. Vincent Indianapolis Blood Management Program in Indiana. Since its establishment in 2001, the blood management program has reduced hospital transfusions by over 30% and Dr. Hannon will discuss the details of implementing this kind of strategic blood management program. Arthur Bracey, MD, is the Medical Director, Transfusion Services at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston Texas will share the application of a blood management program in a large surgical hospital using an interdisciplinary approach.
