DESCRIPTION
The former head of the Scottish National Blood Program will discuss the different regulatory frameworks currently in existence in the EU and how these differences will affect the process of developing a continent-wide blood program. These regulatory differences and how they are resolved will have a profound effect on blood collection agencies in the US.

OBJECTIVES

  • Describe the regulatory differences between the countries of the European Union (EU) and explain how these differences affect blood collection in the US
  • Outline the steps that are being taken by the EU to reconcile different regulatory requirements
  • Explain how the US blood collection agencies should prepare for the development of a continent-wide EU blood program
