DESCRIPTION
This session will provide an update on viral, bacterial, parasitic and prion diseases that are transmissible by transfusion. The speakers are acknowledged leaders in the field of infectious disease transmission through transfusion and will use a lecture format with graphics to illustrate key decision-making tools. OBJECTIVES
- Discuss the epidemiology, natural history and interventions that are or might be used to prevent or reduce the risk of emerging pathogens
- Diagram decision mechanisms used in the management of new and emerging infections by blood providers and regulators
