DESCRIPTION
This workshop will address the growing field of cord blood transpantation in the adult patient. The criteria for using one or more cord blood units for adult transplantation will be explained. In addition, the protocols for cord blood collection, processing and selection will be described along with a review of the concerns and current research on the quality of cord blood units. Last, clinical outcomes of the adult transplant recipient will be assessed. OBJECTIVES
- Discuss the use of one or more cord blood units for transplantation in adult patients
- Describe the research and concerns regarding the quality of cord blood units used for transplantation
- Explain the role of CD34 testing of cord blood units
- Evaluate the clinical outcomes when cord blood units are used for adult transplant recipients
