Even experienced blood center staff can be perplexed when faced with suitability decisions involving donors with unique conditions. This session will bring together four experienced blood center medical directors to present and discuss the challenges posed by several unique donor suitability situations. The focus of the session will be on donor eligibility decision-making in situations not addressed by FDA regulations and/or AABB standards. Discussion will include such issues as bleeding/coagulation disorders, disabilities and transgender persons. A question and answer session at the end of the session will invite the audience to present examples of their own donor suitability challenges for panel discussion.
