DESCRIPTION
Nurses coordinate a wide range of blood component collections and hemotherapy activities. This program will explore some new approaches to blood component collections, clarify regulations that protect the safety of certain donors and define considerations for high-risk autologous collections. In addition, through formal presentation and group discussion, approaches for limiting blood component transfusions in the perioperative setting will be highlighted. OBJECTIVES
- Describe the method of cell separation and the final products obtained using ALYX double red cell collection technology
- Discuss considerations for anemia management of patients in the perioperative period
- Explain regulations pertaining to safety and compliance considerations when managing multiple, concurrent apheresis donor collections
