DESCRIPTION
This session is Part I of a two-part morning education event featuring Coding and Reimbursement Updates for 2004. The speakers will focus on transfusion medicine reimbursement, current requirements to properly code (HCPCS Level I & II) and bill transfusion medicine services and perspectives on the impact of current coding and billing issues as they relate to the blood center, blood bank/transfusion services and related areas. Specific guidance will be given on how to spot common billing and coding errors. Part II will follow at 10:30 am. OBJECTIVES
- Describe correct coding requirements for transfusion medicine services
- List all new billing codes used in transfusion medicine services
- Compare and contrast at least two billing differences between inpatient and outpatient transfusion medicine services
- Describe transfusion medicine coding and reimbursement issues from the blood center and blood banks/transfusion services perspective
