DESCRIPTION
This hands-on session will feature presentations, group discussions, and demonstrations that highlight different approaches to establishing a comprehensive program for quality assessment of transfusions. Patient outcomes, improvement and business case data to support establishing Transfusion Safety Officer or similar positions in hospitals will be discussed. OBJECTIVES
- Describe methods used to establish a bedside quality assessment of transfusion programs in hospitals
- Compare different implementation approaches and tools for direct observation audits of transfusions
- Explain the role of the Transfusion Safety Officer and similar roles throughout the world
- Discuss patient care improvement and business case data supporting the establishment of Transfusion Safety Officer or similar positions in hospitals in the US
