DESCRIPTION
Benchmarking for best practice in the blood banking industry continues to be a challenge. This session will address the design, data collection and information obtained from a pilot benchmarking project evaluating product utillization for transfusion services. It will address usage, discard, outdating and cost based on region, size and type of facility. Additional benchmark data obtained from regional efforts will be presented. OBJECTIVES
- Discuss benchmarking for transfusion services and the continued evolution of industry standards
- Describe the Administrative Section Coordinating Committee's (ASCC) benchmarking project for transfusion service
- Review benchmark information for blood utilization obtained from the ASCC pilot benchmarking project
- Provide information obtained from regional benchmark initiatives for the transfusion service
