DESCRIPTION
This session is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to exchange ideas and concerns relating to hospital blood banks and transfusion services. The program will include presentations on ISBT 128 validation, bedside scanners, bacterial detection in platelets and a review of AABB assessment tools. In addition, a review of the 2003 Transfusion Service Practice survey is presented. OBJECTIVES
- Describe the steps involved in validating ISBT 128 in the transfusion service
- Explain aspects of AABB assessment tools
- Evaluate options for bedside scanning of laboratory and blood bank specimens
- Describe options for bacteria detection in platelets in the transfusion service
